Altrusans at food bank.JPGAltrusans at Lifesaver Food Bank fill bags for distribution to those in need

District Ten Conference attendees volunteering their time to repack beans for family boxes at the "Altrusa founded and sponsored" Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico. The food bank serves 9 counties covering approximately 20,000 square miles in Eastern New Mexico and West Texas. 3 of the New Mexico counties are proud homes to Altrusa Clubs. Tucumcari, Portales and Clovis. The food bank has two refrigerated trucks that haul commodities, bread, pastry and produce into 42 volunteer sites that in turn distribute the food to the local families in need. Several of the villages are 40 miles from the nearest gas pump or grocery store. The people receiving the sacks of beans may not understand the little note in the sack that tells who repacked the beans and the date, but they will know there is someone special that took their own time so that hungry New Mexicans were able to put food on their family table. Thanks Altrusans!
